Gut makes it four wins for the season as she ends 2015 as No 1

Gut was happy with both of her runs down the Schlossberg course in Lienz. With racers on the second run course having to battle against the deteriorating light and a harder course set, Gut used her experience and the power of her skis to post an aggregate time that was the best on the day.

Commenting after the race on her impressive run of form that has seen the HEAD World Cup Rebel take three wins and a second in her last four races, Gut reflected “I am trying to stay focused  and do what I can. I am just staying calm and looking ahead to the next races.”

Two years ago Gut’s best friend on the World Cup Tour, Anna Fenninger, won the Giant Slalom in Lienz and winning this year made her proud to be able to replicate the win. After the race Gut explained that she is now really starting to feel the confidence that her belief in her equipment is bringing.

Lindsey Vonn was looking fast at the first split on the first run but skied out not long after, explaining after her run that she “needs a bit of training and it is hard at this time of the year to manage your energy and yet still be able to train enough to be competitive. I feel I have really good skis in GS right now, I am just not quite 100% consistent.” Vonn will now head home and get some training she explained.

Elena Curtoni took tenth overall, making the most of starting early on the second run, one of eight Rebels on the second run start list. Curtoni posted the fastest second run time to lift her up from joint 27th place to tenth.

Gut now goes into the New Year with rescheduled races at Zauchensee in the Overall lead. This is not something that worries her as she knows how quickly the tide will turn. The important time to be in the lead, she explained, is at the end of the season.
