Fenninger continues winning run in Bansko

Anna Fenninger continued her winning run in Bansko with victory in the rescheduled World Cup Super G as three HEAD World Cup Rebels placed in the top five. Victory for Fenninger also saw her take the lead from her fellow Rebel in the Super G standings. Tina Maze took second in the race and Lindsey Vonn third as Elena Curtoni kept her form from Saturday’s cancelled race to take fifth.
Fenninger is on a roll in Bansko and not even the loss of her stick momentarily stopped her as she was ahead at all the split times down the course. This was her second career win in Super G on the World Cup, her twelfth World Cup win in all disciplines and second of the weekend.
After the race, Fenninger explained “I am very happy to have won again on the World Cup in the Super-G. It is indescribably beautiful. I can enjoy it very much and am just free. That’s hard to explain. Sometimes it’s hard to say what you do differently because you are in the focus. But I will go on and on.”
Lindsey Vonn put the poor course conditions from the Super Combined Super G away and added “It’s a nice feeling to be back on the podium. I skied well, but had a few mistakes. You runway was much better than yesterday, Congratulations to the workers. I hope in the next race to be a bit faster.”
With her confidence ridding high after two wins in two days and just eight World Cup races left of the season, Fenninger is in the hunt for three discipline Crystal Globes and now trails Maze by just 44 points in the hunt for the Overall.
After having lead the cancelled race on Saturday in Bansko, Elena Curtoni emphasised her importance to the HEAD World Cup Rebels team by taking fifth place in the rescheduled race. Starting early, after two runners had crashed out, Curtoni held the lead for a while before Hosp edged her out by one hundredth of second.
Liz Goergl and Julia Mancuso both had steady runs while Wendy Holdener carried on the good work from the Super Combined to score points in fourth discipline this season with 27th place.
